Well Fuck.

I can't believe Arnold's our effing governer. It's like he won by a land slide. At first they were saying that it could take as long as 2 weeks... amongst 135 candidates, that'd make sense, right? Nope, one hour after the polls closed they were near certain the governer was chosen. You know, I really never realized the system was so fucked until now. The guy bought his way into office, there's no other way to explain it. And hey, at least I put an attempt into it. In Santa Rosa, I registered to vote *there*, I don't know how that went, didn't get my forms down there. When I came here, I fucked up on my forms(including address ^_^*) so they sent me one of those classic "you didn't fill crap in so you get to do it over again!" papers. I got the same thing from the DMV. I went down there anyway and said I registered for another city.... and voted AGAINST the effing recall >:o. Hopefully they won't disqualify me from the next election.
I feel sorry for Davis, really. It's not his fault all the scandels happened during his term. He didn't know the extent of the damage. The whole notion of the recall was fucked. Disregarding the 40 or so percent of Californians who ACTUALLY voted during the last election, the rest of us *didn't* vote and then threw a fit when the result of the defefit was brought out to us. The VOTERS picked him, so apparently that gives some political opponents the right to change their minds? It's a SAD state of affairs. So really, will there be recall after recall after recall when the ignorant masses finally realize "Oh, this guy never had any political experience, why did we elect him as our governer?" I was hoping that the economy might turn when I got out of college so the outlook on job placement wouldn't be as grim as it is now... but this is just distressing.

Date: 2003-10-08 08:57 pm (UTC)Besides why not critisize those who were the first to put in for the office of governor when the mere notion of a recall was still questionable...Since we're so bent on critisizng Arnold because he is an actor. All the people first in line were like buzzards flocking to the scent of fresh blood. Arnold wasn't even sure until a little late in the game if he was even going to run for governor or whether it was going to be his partner.
Once again, who doesn't everyone stop jumping the gun and see if there maybe is something that Arnold can do for California...
Re: Whee - Debate :D
Date: 2003-10-08 09:19 pm (UTC)And yes, Arnold is a lot less worse than the slimy Issa (who orchestrated the whole deal) and whatnot, but the fact is that the recall shouldn't have happened. It was a very undemocratic thing. Arnold could turn out to be a great governer, but let's not ignore the facts - the only reason he was elected was because he was "Tha Tahminata", not because he was actually qualified. I mean, hey, maybe Gary Coleman would've been a good leader too, but that doesn't mean Gary Coleman should be governer!
no subject
Date: 2003-10-08 10:46 pm (UTC)Anyway, Arnold *has* no political abilities, unlike Reagan who was president of the Actor's Guild before he ran for governer. And yeah, I remember hearing about him alright... I won't forget how he nearly crashed the stock market with his "trickle down theory". Same thing Bush Jr's trying to impliment now- cutting taxes on the rich. Reagan's one of my least favorite presidents- EVER. Arnold's done virtually *nothing*. Yup, "Tha Taminatah" was the only thing working on his side. Arnold was popular with the guys who grew up watching him blow shit up with his GUNS OF DOOM. Statistics say that around 30% of the ladies voted for him. Since the words "SEX SCANDEL" obviously work against their favor.
HMM.
Date: 2003-10-09 02:03 am (UTC)So like, I guess you DISLIKE this Arnold character.
Maybe.
But it's pretty much been well-known for a few weeks now that the vote was going to be down to "Either deny the Recall or ARNOLD WINS."
But now that he's won, have you spent some time looking at the mans platform and goals? (Granted, the man's said next to shit on this manner in the media and press, but his website www.joinarnold.com has quite the outline about what he intends to do.) So far, what I've read is good stuff. Basically, California is spewing money out in 8 different directions at various bullshit and excess programs and doesn't even bother to check weather or not the money spent is doing anything productive, let alone positive to residential, commercial, industrial, or even environmental intrests or concerns. He looks to seriously re-structure spending on all fronts and institute much more sane measures to stop the massive money hemmorage that's currently taking place. It's incredibly ambitious for a guy voted in on an admittedly poorly-chosen recall, but... shit... I mean, what the hell do you have to lose? If he gets things moving and makes good on his plans, it looks to ease up all the shit California's going through.
As for his political credentials, yeah, he doesn't have much. He isn't a politician.
Now tell me what's so bad about that?
I mean, he's absolutely right when he says he can't be bought. What the hell does he have for need of money? He funded practically his entire campaign out-of-pocket, and roughly 3 times that was made on Terminator 3 alone. So must of the red tape (Wich he's looking to rid of) created by special-intrest groups handing him huge campaign donations goes out the window. He can actually sit down and do productive shit. Also, his politics make him out to be a moderate; Largely liberal on most fronts, but conservative on spending and finances. he would have never won in a standard election simply because no party would back him. So you have the added bonus of no major party loyalty, wich is quite refreshing.
As for his Scandalous shit.... yeah. No surprise there. Steriods, aside form giving you small testicles and a massive forehead, also tend to make you a complete and utter cockface. Wich, he was. But when confronted with it, instead of bullshitting or denying accusations, he came right out on national television and said "Yes, I was a massive asshole. No bones about it. I AM VERY SORRY." Wich was an incredibly smart thing to do. people saw a man who could be honest about his shortcommings and mistakes and whatnot and it played very much in his favor.
So yeah... Arnold's your govenor now. The recall was wrong and shouldn't have happened for the reasons cited, but it did. I say run with it and see where it gets you. Things arguably couldn't get much worse.
