I've never even been CLOSE to procrastinating much, but this year will be even better. I've already finished the essay that is due in 3 days... I'm thriled, it was a great essay to write... took me a couple hours only because me and Amada were in deep discussion over stuff. I even saved that convo... it first started as me being pissed out about him tricked AOL to get himself a host account.
Amada: lol. XP
Amada: Oh. I think you can also steal names with the trick I mentioned on how to get a host name up there, but I don't know.
MajesticArcanine: 0_o
MajesticArcanine: ok.....
Amada: XD;;;
Amada: Owwe. My shoulder hurts. >_<
Amada: And you're probably the best friend I've gotten from TRHQ so far. ^^
MajesticArcanine: awww
MajesticArcanine: really? ;_;
MajesticArcanine: I'm happy I'm your friend ^_^
Amada: XD Yes, on both accounts.
Amada: ^^
MajesticArcanine: *huggles* ;_;
Amada: **hugs back** XP
I'm about to go for food *drools* but before then, I'd like to share my essay, heh. it is a good essay 0_o. And I'm thinking: where the fuck did i pick up some of these words? "dogmaticall" ? 0_o. i must be reading books far more than I realize....
Star Stuff
As my most favorite astronomer and teacher would say, “In the end, we are all just star stuff.” This has been coined by my classmates as one of the “nerdiest” quotes of the century, however, in astronomy class I found Carl Segan’s assertion to be the simple truth. I have always found a love and admiration for astronomy, the pursuit of the nature and physics of the universe and all its wonders. This is why the excerpt from George D. Abell’s “Exploration of the Universe” is the only creation myth I respect in the Stevenson custom reader. I was highly entertained reading the Bartose, the Huai-Nan Tzu and the Wyot’s versions of our ultimate creation to name a few, however, I disregarded most of them to be simple fables long-since abandoned by reason.
George D. Abell’s account was a well-developed narrative utilizing years of research on the matter. We all know that the universe was created approximately 12 billion years ago, and our own earth began forming only five billion years ago, however, there were no humans who lived to record it. One of my favorite science teachers best definitions was the following : Science- the study of nature. Science could be the simplest field one commits to, or the most difficult. A scientist could be one who studies local flora, or it could be the one who maps out the origins of the universe predetermined billions of years ago. Abell’s view is one I have studied for years- the big bang occurred randomly billions of years ago, onward, the elements condensed to form all the known 119 or so elements we have categorized on our periodic table. But in the very beginning, there were only two elements- hydrogen and helium. All stars in our universe mostly( 90% or more) consist of hydrogen and helium. This is what created the earth, this is what created humans, and this is why “We are all star stuff”. I was highly surprised to find the last two sentences in the except to paraphrase Carl Segan’s famous words - “The atoms of our bodies came from material in the fireball. We were and are still in the midst of it; it is all around us.” (Abell, 9).
While Abell’s work focused on the physical creation of the universe, I respected the Huai-Nan Tzu’s account for the spiritual creation of the universe. This is something that can never be proven, however, ying and yang is something that I will always believe in. Their beliefs about the spiritual creation of the earth arise in conjunction with the scientific creation: “Before heaven and earth had taken its form, all was vague and amorphous. Therefore it was called the Great Beginning” (Creation,7). The Huai-Nan Tzu version emphasizes the important of opposites leading to symbiosis. For example : the sun and moon, the sky and water, the heaven and the earth, and later the male and the female. When all was complete, it was known as “The Great Oneness.” It also does not propagate the view of man being the higher being. “All are creatures. They are not the uncreated creator of things, for the creator of things is not among things. If we examine the Great Beginning of antiquity we find that man was born out of non-being to assume form in being.” (Creation,8). Man is part of this earth , and can only be one with it if he realizes that he was born from nothing like everything else was… I suppose this is the Chinese version of modesty incorporated into their society?
Abell’s conglomeration of legitimate facts of the birth of the universe is a history all on its own, it is a modern history however, only recently discovered in the 1930s with Hubble’s discovery of the expanding universe and galaxies similar to our own. It took decades upon decades to predict where we truly originated and even the most religious and pious of people cannot ignore the hard evidence. This is why science and religion always backlash upon each other: they have opposing views about what is considered correct. Christianity, Judaism, and Muslim all believe in one general theory: God created the heavens and the universe. The bible does not correspond to the general scientific belief that the earth was created 12 billion years ago with a big bang. After all , there was no god involved in their version. Perhaps one day science and religions will respect each other for their differences, however I have yet to see this day.
The ideas of the Huai-Nan Tzu reflect years of mythology and sociology. This was how most Chinese people viewed the world at that time: their actions in their everyday lives reflected their principles of Ying and Yang. Their temples were constructed this way, and their spiritual awareness of the world was inspired, sometimes even dogmatically enforced by the two halves of a whole. However, in the very end, in both accounts of our creation man were known simply as this: man developed out of nothings. In science, he developed from hydrogen and helium, just like the stars, and from the Ancient Chinese point of view, he was born from the Great Beginning, where all of earth’s creatures began to take their forms. So perhaps the proper saying from the Chinese is “We are all a part of the Great Oness”, how is this any different from Mr. Segan quoting, thousands of years later “We are all star stuff.”?

AAAA DUDE.
Date: 2003-09-22 03:42 pm (UTC)That's a damn sweet essay going on there. I assume the purpose was a comparison and contrast of scientific theory to creation myth? It fucking RAWKS my shit. Although you forgot to mention Segan saying BILLIONS and BILLIONS.
That is the most important part.
As for the OTHER SUBJECT of this post, I am sad to say that the defeat of 1 human and ONLY 2 LV 5 CPUs does not phase me in the least. I mean, the CPUs are just like moving meat targets ripe for scoring.
THE FACT OF MY ULTIMATE SUPERIORITY STILL REMAINS.
Bow to me.
