Next I'll talk about a couple outings Alice took me on. She invited me over to her Dad's house, which was on one of the peninsulas. It was fun. They have a huge Bernese Mountain Dog who was so cute and friendly. He was more interested in Alice's dogs, but I still liked giving him a big hug! I love huge dogs <3. She also invited me to her friend's house where we played this really silly card game called "Killer Bunnies". I ended up winning! Woooo. One of her friends also brought over her giant fluffball of a Samoyed dog and he was also very friendly and cute. I still keep wishing Burns was a friendly dog!

Alice also invited me to come to her 8 year old niece's choir concert and it was very cute and fun. The kids sang songs in many different languages and they did a great job! The repertoire consisted of mostly religious songs, but that was really my only complaint. The director managed to pick a Zulu song that was about god.... ehehehe. My favorite song was probably the classic Sarasponda. On the program was a brief description of the songs and I found out Sarasponda originated in what's now NYC, which used to belong to the Dutch and was called "New Amsterdam". It was a sung by Dutch seamstresses as a nonsense song to mimic the sounds of the loom. They'd sing it to pass the time

For several months I tried to switch to the Dvorak keyboard and I even switched my keyboard at work and everything. I got Alice into it too for a few weeks too. Eventually when I came home though, I gave that up and went back to QWERTY. I should probably try taking that up again.

I don't really have a reason as to why I wanted to make the switch. You really are supposed to practice typing every day for an hour using these free online Dvorak typing tutorials, but I kind of stopped that into the 2nd week and just typed while looking at the keys. I managed to get up to 35 wpm in Dvorak while looking at the keys which isn't so bad, but I was so hard core about it at the time that the only time I switched back to QWERTY was to type a 2 page paper because at the time I had to use a different work computer. This was a time when the wireless wasn't working well in my cabin... actually it hardly ever worked well in my cabin : (. It made my crackville addiction hard to sustain.

I was really in love with the Northern Michigan weather. Maybe because it was a complete novelty to me. I was really excited whenever I would hear someone utter "Winter Storm Advisory". We had 2 major storms. One was in mid-April and it yielded 6 inches of snow! During that day I went out to the lake, stood on this small tower of rafts right on the lake shore and it was one of the happiest days of my life. LOL. Here's a pic I took at that moment. Alice would think I was weird because I would always grab snow or ice with my bare hands and thro it somewhere. One of my favorite things to do was pick up an icicle and use it as a spear to throw at a pile of snow to try to get it to stick up. I was sometimes successful.

So once I finished up my last class while here and hopefully will finally get my damn degree. Remember, after a miscalculation of credits that was caught very late, I had to take one extra class for the Library Science degree. I missed my graduation since I had to be here for another week and now kind of regret that. I saw pics from my friends/coworkers and it seemed like it was very fun. I will still be nervous till my degree is posted online which could take several weeks.

So that brings me all the way to last night (May 27). Alice and I drove over to Grand Rapids where I stayed over for the night and hugged her cuddly dogs before she took me to the airport. She has 3 in total with her bf, and the one I'm holding is super cuddly. My favorite dog of hers is probably her PUGGGLE though. She liked to sit on my lap during the trips to/from Grand Rapids. I didn't get any pics of me holding her, though. I did get Wellington to growl at me when I picked him up, though :p. He looks so thrilled there. Lol Tyche was a very licky dog. She would always try to lick up my nose. That was her favorite spot, it seemed XD;. But here she's licking Romy : ).

I finished writing this in my notebook on the first flight back to CA. I have 12 double-sided paged written in my notebook and it will take several hours typing it in Dvorak( sadly, in QWERTY ;_;). I won't have much to do when I get back to Santa Rosa for a while. My mom is in Russia right now with her mom and I am stuck pet-sitting for a little while.

I'm sure I've gained lots of weight while here so I hope I can get some time in with a physical trainer. What I have to look forward to is Justin coming to visit soon, [livejournal.com profile] soicjuabba's graduation to attend, an interview for a Digital Librarian position near Seattle and my trip to Israel! I finalized it and will be there to visit Dana and my cousin, Yulia in late June : ).

Ok so it's taken me about 2 and a half months to type all this out XD;. Glad to finally be done!
