[livejournal.com profile] noir_au_blanc gave me some more, so I'll gladly participate again! If anyone else wants to do this, don't be shy!

Numazu

Numazu is the town that I lived in when I taught English in Japan. I think it means "swamp" because maybe it originally looked like swampland? It's a medium-sized city for Japan. About 200,000 people live there. There is a great view of Mt. Fuji in the wintertime. I liked living in Numazu. I actually prefer living in suburban areas because living in the city is too noisy and expensive for me. I rode my crappy "mamachari" everywhere around Numazu. That was how all the English teachers got around. It's just a crappy, cheap bike designed for Japanese mothers. I wanted a better bike but never really bought a new one. Bikes are passed down from teacher to teacher.

Numazu is apparently "famous" for its dried fish but I'm not really a fan of dried fish. The beach was literally 5 mins away from my place and I loved riding my bike down the beach bike trail. It went on for miles. Otherwise, Numazu wasn't terribly exciting. Just a typical suburban town. It didn't take long to get to Tokyo by shinkansen (bullet train) so it was a pretty convenient location. I'm fairly adaptable, but I tend to like living in suburbs that are close to interesting metropolitan areas. So for me, Numazu was a great place to be.

Pikmin

LOL I bet she got this from a somewhat recent entry of mine where I mentioned Pikmin. For those of you who don't know, Pikmin is this strategy game devised by the one and only Shigeru Miyamoto. One of the most brilliant game designers in the world. He came up with Mario and a slew of other famous games. I love the Pikmin series and find it really cute and fun to play. I love strategy games and Pikmin isn't terribly challenging, but it's just very amusing.

My favorite Pikmin has always been the Yellow Pikmin. They are so cute! They're bad fighters, but you can throw them really high and they blow things up for you! I really want a yellow pikmin plushie. Maybe I'll get one some time.

I'm pretty excited about Pikmin 3. It's coming out for the Wii U at launch. Possibly the only game that interests me heavily in the Wii U at the moment.

Architecture

Interesting XD. Well, I don't usually pay too much attention to architecture. I think if I have a favorite style of architecture, it's gothic because I love the stuff that comes from that period. I love the pointed arches and how the cathedrals were designed.

Books

I graduated with a Master's in Library and Information Science so I have to like books! I did kind of go into archives which doesn't really deal with books, but historical records. I haven't been as much of a voracious reader in the last few years as I used to be, but I still enjoy reading. Right now, I'm in the middle of "The World Without End" which is the sequel to "Pillars of the Earth". I'm really enjoying it. I loooooved Pillars and World Without End is very good too!

My favorite book is possibly Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. I think I like it mostly because it's incredibly melodramatic and I love the character of Heathcliff XD.

Currency

I love to collect coins! I have a pretty neat coin collection at my parents' house. I usually like to collect foreign coins. I don't really collect rare ones. I also like collecting the US quarters. I finished the state quarters series and I'm not completely sure what they're doing now, but I'm probably gunna collect whatever they come up with next.

lol.. wow that was really interesting..

I had a thought in my mind that Numazu was a place.. and in that I guess I was on the money but I thought it was in Russia of all places - now Pikmin I thought was some sort of dish or food.. hehehe.. and you're telling me it was a game. :)

haha, I thought you got Pikmin from when I was making a comment about games from E3 (this gaming expo) several entries ago, but maybe it's in my profile or something? Pikmin are food... to bigger monsters, but I wouldn't want to eat something that cute!

Hehe. I guess Pikmin and Pokemon do seem kind of similar. With Pokemon, there are hundreds of varieties but with Pikmin, there are only 5 types. Two more types are being added to Pikmin 3, but I think what they might do is not have two types in the game at all to keep it at a limit of 5. I'm super into Pokemon too. The games play differently since Pikmin is a strategy game and Pokemon is an RPG. But nintendo is good at creating cute little monsters : ). A Pikmin does look like a pokemon, actually XD. The yellow one could very well be an electric pokemon type, and the red a fire type and blue- the water type.
