The timing on Rickman's death is just kind of eerie. Literally yesterday [livejournal.com profile] kehlen_crow mentioned she was a little worried because he cancelled performances. I hoped he was ok, but tried not to think much about it. Smoking is bad, folks. Ok, I'm mostly telling myself that right now because with how manic/depressed I've been lately, I keep finding ways to bum cigarettes without having to buy a whole pack because the desire right now to take it up again is strong D:. Being a 69 year old British icon these days seems to already have a mini curse.

I find it so surprising I'm much more effected by Bowie's death. I'm that way though with a lot of things, though. I always appreciate something/someone more, if I didn't care for them at first. I loved Alan Rickman from the moment I saw him portray my favorite character in the first Harry Potter movie. I thought he was too old for the role (Snape in the books is supposed to be in his early 30s starting from the first book), but he was J.K. Rowling's personal pick.

There was also a time where I decided I HAD to check out most of his non-villainous roles and I watched a bunch of his movies at once. I strongly recommend one of his first cinematic roles Truly, Madly, Deeply . Although he had that mustache for the role, it was great to see him in that cute movie. Check out this scene of him speaking in Spanish :3 https://youtu.be/MAS8LhgYp2M .

Bowie, on the other hand, I didn't really care for the longest time. I saw the Labyrinth when I was 11. It must have been a sexual awakening for the friend who showed it to me because she thought his giant codpiece was "his ballsack" XD. It distracted me too much. The only thing I liked about his performance was that cute Magic Dance . Damn so 80s!!

Anyway fast forward about 10 years and I find out that he is responsible for that horrid "Let's Dance" song. I'm kinda sorry if you guys like the song, but I find it incredibly unfortunate that became his biggest hit of all time. So I was kind of confused "Is this guy a singer or actor?? Which is he known for?? " It wasn't until I learned that he was responsible for Space Oddity (Major Tom song), which I previously attributed to Elton John, that I began to see him differently. I've always loved Space Oddity and I started to do a little research where I quickly learned about his various personas in the 70s and 80s. He was just such a style icon. The father of glam rock, some may say he brought upon New Wave. I also found out that he sang my favorite Queen hit!

I've been listening to a lot of his music lately. For most of his albums, there are only one or two songs I like. I'd like to share one from his second to last album. It's about a school shooting. I've been listening to a lot of it since his death...

From his new album, so far the only song I like is Lazarus, but holy cow is it an amazing piece of art. Really depressing, but so moving all at once.

A couple facts which most fans probably know, but just in case:

*That weird right eye he has was caused by some kid punching him in the face over a girl. He's been said to appreciate the damage to it because it looks really cool XD. It really does! I'm not sure how having a chronically dilated pupil feels, but it's so interesting how the retina color changed too.
*Him and Mick Jaggar were most likely lovers
* He declined knighthood because he didn't feel like it represented him at all
