Still not writing about September!
Oct. 12th, 2009 11:52 pmI've been very sleepy these days. Still over stimulated, I guess. I'm in Santa Rosa and I totally forgot mom would come into my room at 6 in the morning to start work. I usually go to my parents' room and sleep on their bed when I get woken up, but I wasn't able to go back to sleep this morning. I went to bed at around 3 am due to sleeping difficulties so I was kind of tired all day.
I did little other than watch TV all day long. Namely my recorded Jon and Kate episodes since I don't have cable at my apt and I can't watch all my beloved TLC programs. I've loved that show since before all the drama started, and it's disappointing to find that it might be canceled due to Jon's greediness. Every time I go to the grocery store and wait at the checkout line, I read the latest tabloids about their drama. That and the headlines about it all. I keep up with it too much.
I'm sure no one wants to hear about it in detail, but I find it really funny in a lot of ways. I can't believe Jon suddenly says the show is "bad for his kids" the day after it's announced that he gets kicked off the show since his activities in the tabloids are considered detrimental to the show. I actually think Jon is a great dad, but taking 200,000 dollars from Kate and then suddenly getting rid of the show cuz he's not happy about being left out of the profits just goes to show how much the money has affected both him and Kate. Their kids are actually so amusing and cute, so hopefully whatever is going on with them won't affect the kids too greatly. I think Kate will get her way with the show continuing, but maybe not. The world seems to be on Kate's side these days. Funny that before Jon became a massive dick everyone was on the Kate-Hate train.
I also watched this depressing Russian war movie called "Ascent". It was recorded and i was bored of Jon and Kate for a while and decided to try it out. I never thought I'd get through it. I've only watched a handful of Russian movies, and this was my first Russian war movie. It was directed by a Russian woman in the early 70s. It is considered to be her best work, but she and some of her film crew died while filming her next movie. Quite a tragedy. It was unique for a war movie. I don't think the movie itself was about violence and shooting so much as it was about character and what people resort to when faced with death. One character was noble, self-sacrificing, and stuck to his principles, the other main character just wanted to survive. It was more of the contradicting attitudes of what to do when your life is in imminent peril and what you would do. Would you save your own neck by ratting out your comrades, innocents, to the enemy, or would you rather die than to save your own skin? It had some extremely poignant conversations, however it did move very slowly at times. You can read more about it here- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_ascent . I doubt even many Russians know about this movie. Certainly not people outside film enthusiasts. Regardless, it did resonate with me in several ways.
On Saturday, I went to this tiny anime con in Berkeley. Kanoe and Wei-Chen were their selling their goodies, but they didn't make much of a profit. Mostly because the con was really tiny since it was the first year it was held. it did well for a first-time con, though. It did have some good performances, anime (though I watched very little), and the tournaments went well. All I basically did was play fighting games the majority of the time I was there. i got to try out KOF 12 for the first time. I have a lot of complaints about it, but so does everyone else, I'm sure. My icon (Yuri) wasn't even in it. Some other more popular characters weren't in it either- like Mai. That skank is possibly the most popular female character. Screw that. Athena was in it, but minus her good super. All the characters only had one super... kind of sucks. Terry was minus several moves I use. I was most pissed off about his power-dunk being nixed. I am good with his power dunk and it's almost the foundation of how I always use Terry. The only character they didn't screw up was Joe. He is good in the game. i do like using him. I could talk for a really long time about other complaints, but I won't. I wish 12 were as good as 11. 11 was so great. I just don't understand why half of KOF games are just so bad. It's like SNK doesn't feel like even trying half the time.
At least SF IV is SO awesome. i can't get enough of it. So much better for me than SF III. I sucked at playing people, but I did get some good rounds in with an opponent around my level. It plays very naturally for me and I love what they did with Ryu. Ever since Justin installed SF IV on my laptop, I've been practicing and actually getting better. I hope some day I will find opponents good for me to play. It's either I get to battle someone much better than me, or much worse than me. Justin and that guy I played for several rounds before the console room closed are the only opponents my level. It's nice to play people your level... Especially for me. I don't like to massacre n00bs because that's boring and I feel sorry for them, and losing constantly to some awesome opponent gets old too...
That's all to report for now. Did I mention I'm really into Audrey Hepburn right now? I'm reading her biography. She has a very interesting history. Did you know that she was anorexic most of her life and was a spy for the allies during WWII in Holland? Her mom was into her role as a spy because Audrey's dad was a Nazi-sympathizer and was really into Hitler and the 3rd Reich... they got divorced. I got dad to order "Breakfast at Tiffany's" but I don't think it will arrive by the time I'm leaving tomorrow -_-. I'm sure it will arrive a day later. That kind of sucks : (. Audrey is SO pretty and is such a great actress. I really want to see more of her movies.
