Maine Pt. 1

Day 1: was a day in Midland because the flight was cancelled so they put us on a flight the next morning. I asked for them to get us a hotel because Alpine is 2.5 hrs away from the airport and I didn't want to go back and forth. They did and it was great. We looked up things to do in Midland and there was the petroleum museum and George W. Bush Museum... no thank you. I went ice skating at the mall which is something I do pretty much every time we're in that area. Justin's very bad at it, having never ice skated as a kid, but I really enjoy it. It's never too crowded.

Day 2: we finally made it to Maine. Got there late, went to this pub downtown, had some fish and chips. Haddock is really popular there.

Day 3: A coworker told me I should check out the puffins in Maine, so we went to Boothbay Harbor and took a boat out to see them. Puffins were apparently extinct from the US, but there was an effort which started in the 70s to bring them back to a few select rocks off the coast of Maine. They brought in puffins from Nova Scotia and encouraged them to nest back at the rocks by installing these life-sized puffin dummies. It has worked very well! Though when we went, it was the tail end of puffin season and there weren't many around. We could see them fly in front of the ship, and a few float in the ocean, but I couldn't see any on the rock.

Right after that, we went to this really pretty botanical gardens. Everything was in bloom and it was surrounded by a bunch of hiking trails.

This is right around the area where I was walking along these rocks and one got dislocated, so I fell on my leg : (. Didn't hurt it too badly though, just got a huge bruise.
