Book club and music

Another friendly solicitation request to join [livejournal.com profile] kehlen_crow and my book club. This month we are reading "Good Omens" by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. I don't have the book yet, which I hope to get by the end of the week. Hope you guys can join in!

Not much to report otherwise... There is this charity concert that is featuring Norman Greenbaum, among others in my hometown. Made a failbook request for friends to come with me, but no one ever likes my music so no replies LOL. Oh well.

I'm sorry but today I don't really want to spend time embedding the songs because it's kinda time consuming. Maybe next time!

1. Rush- Limelight

I had to TELL Pandora to put Rush on my Classic Rock Station. Now I'm hoping they dont' put in a bunch of rando prog rock in there because I generally hate prog rock, but I happen to like Rush a lot. One of the only good bands to come out of Canada. Them and Bachmann Turner Overdrive. They are just such a great band... Geddy Lee maybe isn't the best singer and some people think he has an annoying voice, but I like it and I love their lyrics. They're all kind of... trippy and fantas-ical : ).

2. Tom Petty & The Hearbreakers- Learning to Fly

I kind of have mixed opinions about Tom Petty. I can't deny he's incredibly talented and has released hit after hit over the 70s-80s especially. I just don't like a lot of his music, but this song is an exception and is just one of those where you think about the lyrics a lot...

Well some say life will beat you down
Break your heart, steal your crown
So I've started out for God knows where
I guess I'll know when I get there

3. Don Henley- Boys of Summer

Maybe this is one of his early solo career hits? It's a very 80s song and someone fell deep into the 80s LOL. I think this song is just very cute. Nostalgic, it's a nice little story about summer love and what happens after it. In some ways, kind of similar to Thin Lizzy's "The Boys are Back in Town"

4. Fleetwood Mac- Go Your Own Way

Rumors is truly one of the greatest albums. I tend to like Stevie Nicks the best out of the Fleetwood Mac singers, but this is a nice song. It's been assumed this song is about the Stevie/Lindsay breakup, which it probably is. I like the message... go your own way, do your own thing... have your own affairs LOL. I forgot who it was that she had an affair with... another musician I think.

5. Steve Miller Band- Jungle Love

Oh I like this song. I like how SMB always has such cute and amusing introductions. It's fun and very kind of classic SMB. It reminds me of Jet Airliner...

6. The Animals- House of the Rising Sun

When I was getting my "rock n' roll education", I think I confused this band with the Stones lol. Actually they came up with several hits. This song is just kind of musically inspiring... it has a lot going on, even though the song itself is a bit morose.

Oh mother, tell your children
Not to do what I have done
Spend your lives in sin and misery
In the House of the Rising Sun

7. The Beatles- Hello Goodbye

Oh the Beatles finally showed up... you know the greatest band ever. I really liked the Beatles a lot when I was a kid. A lot a lot, I know all their hits. This is a very interesting song because without looking too deep, the song itself seems very childish and silly, but musically it's actually very complex. I really enjoy the ending where I don't know, they almost break out in gospel. It's unique and creative... experimental. There's a reason no band will ever be as great as the Beatles lol.

8. Van Halen- Why Can't This Be Love

Not much to say about this hit. It's possibly my favorite Van Halen song. It's cute and fun and sooo arena rock it's not even funny lol.

9. Modern English- I Melt with You

This probably should show up in my New Wave playlist more, but this is an amazing song. This band didn't do much else. I love this song though, very New Wave and so fun and cute. TRIVIA- a lot of people know that this song was featured in a Burger King ad in the early 90s, but most don't know the band was super pissed about it. This is what happens when you sign a label LOL, no control over these kinds of things. At least one band member is vegetarian if not vegan and it was a big insult.

10. Journey- Seperate Ways

End with Journey again! This happened to be the only Journey song on my playlist today. It also happens to be one of the worst music videos and was featured in my buzzfeed article : D. This song is just kind of cute in general and the music video made it worse. Journey is trying to be all cool and tough, but the song is just so arena rock and kind of tries to take itself too seriously.

That's why they're my favorite band!! At least my online friends like my music lol.
