Thunderstoorrm!
Jun. 1st, 2012 10:52 pmI was just talking to a coworker today(not one of the ladies working on my project with me but one who works for the company we're leasing space from) and after we were talking about the tornado warning in effect today, I told him we have nothing like this in California and it's so cool. Northern California summers are very pleasant but kind of boring. No random thunderstorms with flash flood/tornado warnings. That you mostly get in the East Coast. I remember a drive I took with Justin a couple years ago and it started downpouring all of a sudden and everyone turned on their emergency flashers. Then there was a huge/loud lightening bolt nearby. I screeched because it surprised me. Glad I wasn't driving! Anyway, he said that California weather is so boring and I kind of agreed. He also said that there are no fireflies there, and I guess that's true? I don't know, I've never seen one before in my life. I asked if there were fireflies in this area and he said lots. I hope I get to see some sometime! I'll be so happy.
The giant thunderstorm literally started in my area 10 minutes before I left for home. So it was really reminiscent of that drive with Justin. I wanted to run around in it some more. I got drenched enough just getting to my car in the parking lot XD.I'm just glad that the lightening I saw was far away enough from me. I get very scared at sudden noises/things popping out. At least nothing else really scares me. heh.
Anyway, so last weekend was somewhat eventful. I finally managed to wake up after noon which I haven't done in months. Though I did it for two days in a row. It was nice, but I missed two afternoon Meetup events XD;. Instead I went on two hikes in two different parks. One park is a Nature preserve. I'll probably be going there this weekend. Hopefully tomorrow. They have strict rules about being in the park and everyone has to leave by 4 pm. The first time I went there, I for some reason thought the park closed at 7:30 on Saturdays, but apparently that won't happen for a couple weeks. I got there at 3:30 and they wouldn't let me into the park. The second time I got there at 3. I made sure to time my hike that I would leave by 4 (you had to pass forms in to the visitor's center and everything). I left 5 before 4 and about 15 mins later I got a phone call from the park ranger as I was driving back asking me if I was still in the park. I guess they didn't get the forms or something. Weird.
I went to the local park just a couple miles down the road on my failed attempt to get to the Nature Preserve last Saturday. The hike was fine other than the problem getting water. They had a campgrounds on a portion of the park and I ended up going there group My aluminum water bottle isn't enough to sustain me for anything over an hour, especially in the East Coast humidity. Most parks don't really have drinking fountains, so it can kind of be a problem, especially since I'm not sure I want to buy a bigger water bottle and lug it around. I was thinking of a camelback, but I have upper back issues, and it really is easier on my body for me to just hold the water in my hands.
At the end of the hike, I ended up getting ticks ALL OVER MY legs and car. I pulled about 4 of them out. I freaken hate ticks -_-. At least none of them embedded. I still have the scar from when a tick embedded into my arm a few years ago and my parents didn't know how to pull it out(I guess you're supposed to use rubbing alcohol?) so my dad dug it out with a knife :/. I freaked out so much about them that I got home, stuck my hiking clothes, including my BLACK pants into a bleach solution because I didn't have enough coins to dry the clothes like recommended (apparently they survive the wash, but not drier). Yeah, I don't always do the smartest things when I feel like I need to TAKE CARE OF A PROBLEM. I remember when I took a brillo pad to the car after some dumbasses tagged it with a sharpie. Yeaaah... XD; Though the bleach effect actually made my pants look very early 90s, so I'm not dismayed at all. It looks ridiculous.. acid washed sweats? haha, that's an awesome "style". I also went to the gas station and vacuumed out the entire car. It really needed it anyway. I haven't ever done that, I think XD;. Needless to say, I got tick spray and sprayed it all over the place next time I went to the park. I'll be doing that from now on. I hope it continues to work.
I also spent some of the weekend getting/putting together furniture. I was very happy how my projects turned out, even though I screwed up both of them. I got a small bookshelf for my room so I can store some of my crap on it and finally take my stuff out of the moving boxes. I also got a tv stand and a free tv from someone on Craigslist. It was this 2005 CRT, so nothing fancy. It has component, but sadly I can't get my wii to run with component. I have no idea why : (. I found out that it will be impossible to connect a computer to it, which is a major bummer. At least it was free... or more like 8 dollars because I had to drive a little ways to get it. heh. When Justin gets here, hopefully we can get a trinitron. I will need his help carrying it. I couldn't even really carry the CRT upstairs. It's a 32 inch and I swear it's like 100 lbs. I'm so happy that a neighbor saw me struggling with it outside. I was really hoping there would be a neighbor out there. I was dismayed when no one seemed to be outside when I got there, but as I was trying to lug it by my parking spot, a nice neighbor got out of their car and helped me carry it to my 3rd floor apt : ).
Koop is leaving for the US in less than 24 hours! He's going to E3-related events before he comes here in less than a week! I'm super excited though there are some things I'm stressing about, most of which involve Brian going to NYC with us and Koop's health and issues with his gallstones. Supposedly Brian is still going to NYC. I think I'd rather have him go than not go, but I am stressed about spending any time alone with him which will most likely happen because I got us two rooms and I am more likely to sleep in the same room with Brian since he doesn't snore. I'm not sure if he will flake on going. I don't think he will, but I'm not positive. He's been incredibly flakey and as unresponsive as ever since I tried to abandon him a month ago. I'm not really going to go into another giant Brian rant, though. I don't think we'll ever be as close as we used to be, and I'll have to accept that. It upsets me greatly sometimes, but at least we're talking. Kind of.
